The Contractor is to collect eggs and milt from the Tatsamenie Lake Sockeye stock in B.C., fertilize and disinfect the eggs on site, and then transport the water hardened eggs to the Port Snettisham Hatchery in Alaska. The annual egg take target amount is determined in season and is currently identified at 2.5 million eggs or up to a maximum of 30 percent of the Tatsamenie Lake Sockeye spawning escapement , or whichever is less pending annual direction by the Project Authority to manage Tatsamenie Lake Sockeye production. The range of annual egg take targets could be identified from 250,000 to 3,000,000 depending on a number of considerations leading up to the annual project. Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) will assess annual salmon run size and determine the egg take target annually. DFO does not own assets or infrastructure to support this project. Contractors are required to be self-sufficient throughout the completion of this project. The Contractor will be responsible for mobilization of the worksite, planning and implementing the egg takes and transportation of eggs to Snettisham Hatchery, providing on site supervision, egg take crew members, camp cook, and any other logistical support required. Specific method requirements are identified in following sections. The contract is carried out in the Taku River Tlingit First Nations Traditional Territory. DFO employees will be on site, periodically participating in the project, conducting project inspections/audits, or involved in other work at the discretion of the Project Authority. Refer to the Statement of Work in the tender document for full scope of work.
